JOB SUMMARY: The Environmental Law Enforcement Projects Coordinator oversees a highly capable team in the implementation of projects that support institution capacity building, individual performance improvement, and information gathering and dissemination to law enforcement agencies to improve the enforcement of environmental laws. The purpose of the Environmental Law Enforcement Program is to support the Mongolian government in reducing illegal hunting and collection of wildlife and plants and counter wildlife trafficking.  The position holder is expected to travel to field sites as required. 

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

Headquartered in New York, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is a US non-profit, tax-exempt, organization established in 1895 that saves wildlife and wild places by understanding critical issues, crafting science-based solutions, and taking conservation actions that benefit nature and humanity.  In Mongolia WCS has been working since 2003 with government, communities, NGO’s, and industry partners in conducting research, protecting biodiversity, ensuring landscape connectivity, and supporting efforts that lead to the sustainable management of natural resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a team in the implementation of projects within the WCS Mongolia Environmental Law Enforcement Program portfolio;
  • Effectively manage and communicate with team members;
  • Coordinate, manage, and report on environmental law enforcement related projects to ensure effective completion of projects on time and within an approved budget;
  • Contribute to the development of and delivery of trainings and related materials;
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to promote effective enforcement of Mongolia's environmental laws;
  • Promote the sustainable use of natural resources guided by scientific knowledge and best practice;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • MSc. in Natural Resources Management, Law Enforcement, or Public Administration;
  • 8 years’ professional experience with demonstrated management skills;
  • Functional understanding of Mongolian legal institutions;
  • Functional knowledge of environmental law enforcement tools and mechanisms for implementation;
  • Ability to work in a team setting;
  • Mongolian and English speaking and writing skills;
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office and related products.
