Our Mission
WCS saves wildlife and wild places worldwide through science, conservation action, education, and inspiring people to value nature.
WCS Mongolia’s mission is the conservation of Mongolia’s priority species and its intact landscapes, particularly the vast expanses of the Eastern Steppe and the Southern Gobi. The greatest threats to wildlife in these regions include development, poaching, and climate change. In alignment with our dedication to science -based conservation and long-term commitment to landscapes, our goals are to work with government, communities, and industry to maintain biodiversity, ensure landscape connectivity, and contribute to sustainable management of resources. When combined, these goals will lead to resilient ecosystems in Mongolia that support thriving populations of wildlife and the livelihoods of local communities.
Our Vision
Our vision for Mongolia is that Asia’s last wildlife migration spectacle of over one million Mongolian gazelle thrives across the world’s largest intact temperate grassland, and a full assemblage of Asiatic wild ass (khulan), goitered gazelle, saiga antelope, gray wolf, Siberian marmot, white-naped crane, saker falcon, houbara bustard, Pallas’ cat and other wildlife species are sustained by a network of well-managed national parks and communal lands.
