JOB SUMMARY
The Conservation Governance Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating multiple projects that support government agencies, such as environmental departments and protected area staff, in their conservation efforts. This role focuses on ensuring a high-quality knowledge transfer on environmental law enforcement and SMART systems, equipping participants with practical skills for effective training programs. Coordinate projects supporting government conservation efforts, aligning with organizational objectives and optimizing resources. Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders to successfully execute conservation initiatives. Manage the team overseeing natural resource governance, ensuring project deadlines are met and team members receive the necessary support. Additionally, the Coordinator will lead a new initiative to incorporate legal frameworks into the SMART technology. This integration will enhance the teams' ability to align their conservation efforts with legal requirements effectively. Building collaboration with various stakeholders is an essential part of this role. The position holder will travel to field sites and coordinate with multiple stakeholders. This is a full-time position with a three-month probation period, with the possibility of an annual extension based on performance.

Established in Ulaanbaatar in 2003, WCS Mongolia has remained dedicated to safeguarding Mongolia's wildlife and expansive landscapes for over two decades. Focusing on the Southern Gobi and the Eastern Steppe along with policy and capacity initiatives at the national level, WCS Mongolia's mission revolves around science-driven, landscape-level conservation. Collaborating with various stakeholders such as governments, communities, NGOs, and private sector, the organization prioritizes biodiversity preservation, landscape connectivity, and sustainable resource management at both local and national levels. Through an array of initiatives spanning wildlife research, protected area management, community partnership, policy development, sustainable infrastructure projects, One Health, and climate change adaptation, WCS Mongolia strives to ensure the long-term health and vitality of Mongolia's ecosystems.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate multiple projects that support government agencies in their conservation efforts, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and effective resource management.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with various stakeholders, including government agencies and partners, to facilitate the successful execution of conservation initiatives.
- Manage the team working on the governance of natural resources, ensuring that project deadlines are met and that team members receive appropriate guidance and support.
- Develop and implement effective patrolling plans aimed at reducing wildlife crime and monitoring biodiversity in protected areas and surrounding regions.
- Support the implementation of the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART) technology for tracking biodiversity and managing conservation data.
- Lead an initiative to incorporate legal frameworks into SMART technology, facilitating compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Ensure high-quality knowledge transfer focused on environmental law enforcement, related policies, and SMART systems, providing participants with practical knowledge and skills (e.g. designing and delivering effective training programs).
- Analyze data from training sessions, surveys, and project activities to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare clear, concise and high-quality reports (in Mongolian and English) for stakeholders and project donors that outline project progress, outputs, outcomes, and recommendations for future actions.
- Work with manager to track and develop a detailed timeline of project activities. Monitor the completion of tasks according to the schedule. Ensure that deliverables are met and adjust timelines and resources as necessary.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Essential:
- Technical skills in troubleshooting issues related to SMART Mobile applications and planning patrol efforts, ensuring effective use of technology in the field.
- Experience in training stakeholders on SMART technologies, enabling effective implementation and usage among team members and partners.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Desirable:
- Proficiency in data analysis techniques for deriving insights from SMART systems (e.g., SMART Mobile, SMART Connect) and enhancing decision-making processes based on collected data.
- Familiarity with spatial analysis methods for evaluating patrol routes and geographic data, contributing to improved wildlife monitoring and conservation strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
- MSc. in Natural Resources Management, Law Enforcement, Geographic Information System (GIS) or Technology Background.
- Up to 5 years’ professional experience with demonstrated management skills
