Graphic Designer to Design Khulan Conservation Day Visual Communication Assets
- WCS ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is a US non-profit, tax-exempt, private organization established in 1895 that saves wildlife and wild places by understanding critical issues, crafting science-based solutions, and taking conservation actions that benefit nature and humanity. With more than a century of experience, long-term commitments in dozens of landscapes, presence in more than 60 nations, and experience helping to establish over 150 protected areas across the globe, WCS has amassed the biological knowledge, cultural understanding, and partnerships to ensure that vibrant, wild places and wildlife thrive alongside local communities.
Working with local communities and organizations, that knowledge is applied to address species, habitat, and ecosystem management issues critical to improving the quality of life of vulnerable rural people whose livelihoods depend on the direct use of natural resources.
- WCS MONGOLIA PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Established in Ulaanbaatar in 2003, WCS Mongolia has dedicated over two decades to the conservation of Mongolia’s rich wildlife and expansive landscapes. The organization focuses on science-driven, landscape-level conservation, with key efforts in the Southern Gobi and Eastern Steppe, alongside initiatives in Central Mongolia.
At the national level, WCS Mongolia collaborates with government, community groups, civil society organizations, and the private sector to promote biodiversity preservation, landscape connectivity, and sustainable natural resource management. In 2024, WCS Mongolia launched a five-year strategy focused on three key pillars: enhancing ecological function, strengthening landscape connectivity, and building resilience to climate change. These pillars guide the organization’s work, with the overarching vision of ensuring Mongolia’s ecological integrity for future generations.
- BACKGROUND
WCS Mongolia is seeking a qualified and experienced Graphic Designer to develop a comprehensive set of visual assets for the annual Khulan Conservation Day. This important day was inaugurated by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change in 2024 and will be celebrated every year on October 25 to raise public awareness and promote conservation efforts for the Khulan (Asiatic Wild Ass) and its habitat.
The designer will be responsible for establishing a cohesive and impactful visual identity for this commemoration that can be utilized across various media platforms for years to come.
- OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The primary objective is to engage a designer to create a complete visual package, including official logos, thematic designs, and templates for promotional, printed, and digital materials, ensuring high quality, cultural relevance, and consistency across all outputs.
- SCOPE OF THE WORK
The selected designer will be required to deliver the following final, approved assets, all of which must maintain a consistent motif and design style.
- DELIVERABLES
The consultant/firm is expected to deliver the following outputs:
A. Khulan Conservation Day Logos (Core Identity)
The designer must create the official Khulan Conservation Day logo, incorporating text in both English and Mongolian.

The designer must provide adaptable design templates for merchandise and print, ensuring flexibility in color and orientation.

For BOTH Promotional and Printed Design Sets, the following variations are mandatory:
- Layouts: Square, Horizontal, and Vertical variations.
- Color Palettes: Three (3) distinct color palette options to allow usage in different contexts and seasons.
- Consistency: Must utilize a consistent motif and style that is immediately recognizable as the Khulan Conservation Day identity.
- Adaptability: Designs must be easily usable in diverse contexts without loss of quality.
C. Digital and Social Media Assets
The designer must create assets optimized for various online platforms.

- TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS AND SUBMISSION STANDARDS
All final assets must adhere to the following technical requirements:
- Editable Files: All designs must be submitted in their original, open editable file formats (e.g., Adobe Illustrator AI, EPS, Adobe Photoshop PSD, or high-quality SVG) with all fonts outlined or included.
- Image Files: High-resolution image exports (PNG with transparent backgrounds, high-quality JPG) suitable for both web (72 dpi) and professional printing (minimum 300 dpi).
- Vector/Raster: Logos and primary design motifs must be provided in vector format to ensure scalability.
- Language Check: All Mongolian/English text must be verified with WCS Mongolia staff prior to final submission.
- DESIGNER QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in graphic design, branding, and creation of communications materials, particularly for non-profit or conservation organizations.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating proficiency in logo design and cross-platform visual consistency.
- Fluency in design software (Adobe Creative Suite or similar professional-grade tools).
- Knowledge of or experience with Mongolian cultural context and script is a significant advantage.
- REPORTING AND SUPERVISION
The final timeline will be agreed upon contracting, but the designer is expected to provide initial concepts within one week of contract signing and complete the full set of final deliverables, including revisions, in a timely manner. The designer will report directly to the WCS Mongolia Communications Lead.
- DURATION OF THE WORK

- COMPENSATION AND PAYMENT TERMS
- Total Fee: The total fixed fee for the completion and acceptance of all deliverables listed in Section III is [Amount is based on quotation from designer]. This fee is inclusive of all taxes, expenses, and design software costs.
- Payment Schedule: Payment will be processed upon satisfactory completion and final approval of all project deliverables by the WCS Mongolia Communications Lead, as defined in Section III and Section IV.
- Invoicing: The designer must submit a final invoice to WCS Mongolia upon completion of the work and receipt of final sign-off.

Interested consultants or firms are invited to submit a single PDF document containing:
- CV and Portfolio of similar work done in the past – CV and samples of similar work done in the past.
- Profile/Legal Documents – including company registration (for firms) or proof of legal status (for individuals).
